My Happy Little Garden

There are so many fun things happening in my back yard right now! With the addition to the patio-yard bar - we have just been enjoying this spring weather in our backyard!

This is one of the best times of the year in Arkansas, it's not too hot or humid and the mosquitoes aren't out in swarms yet. I've been doing a bunch of work on my plants and my little garden that I have started. It's been so fun to have time to garden and be a little homebody. It's kept me busy, too!
Abbi's Before Garden
I started with 9 grey cinder blocks, a mini rose plant, a gardenia plant, squash, two pepper plants and some random seeds (Zinnia, California Poppy, Spinach and Lettuce). I grabbed a bag of $1 white shells from the dollar store to use as markers in the dirt so I knew what was where and I was pleased...but as time when on I decided I wanted to get some color out there. I spray painted the bricks a mint green color - I made sure to cover all of the plants with a tarp so I didn't damage them.

I didn't spray paint perfect so you can see some gray still showing through in some places which is A-OKAY with me because it offers some character!

How to make a cinder block raised garden with color!
I also added some colorful moss roses around the perimeter to add some extra color to the garden and to fill up the empty holes with some life. I got myself a nice mint plant, but have learned it can be SO sensitive to things! Pretty much anything - every day I check it to make sure it's okay. It's my problem child plant.

After sprucing up the garden with some color, it really has taken the backyard up a notch along with the seating area. This weekend, I found this cute little cupboard that just needed some love and attention.

I bought it for a whole whopping $4 and got some fun green spray paint and decided I'd use it as a little candle storage place on the bar. It turned out really darling - you can see it in some of the pictures below! Well, that's what I know - hope you enjoy this photos and let me know what you think!

UPDATE:
Of course as soon as I post this I went flea marketing just to kill some time before dinner and found this amazing rack for only $6! So I bought it, ran to Wal-mart to get the matching green spray paint I've been using and then came home and gave it some TLC! It was an ugly tan color and peeling. I cleaned it up and then spray painted it. It turned out perfect! I added some pictures below! :D

I love the color of your blocks. I am researching for planters and I am going to follow your lead and paint my blocks like yours. Thank you

looks great !! .I would spray both side stands yellow I think it will make your garden stand out more. Be sure to put some bright yellow flowers in the center to pull the look all together. You could also put wood slats across the taller stand for more flowers, or maybe the climates up the sides. Great idea with the cinder blocks.

This is just the tip I needed for my concrete blocks. A tip to share-II framed a large two sink mirror and hung it on the privacy fence behind the flower bed. Now the back of the bed is reflected in it.

Just wondering, how has the paint you used held up? Did you prime the blocks before painting them or did you just spray paint them? Thanks

Love your idea, I'll do my bricks red (favorite color). Lol
I have painted bricks before and used regular paint, I bought the retured paints at Walmart and Lowes. They are really cheap. Last time paid $4 for a gallon.

I think the painted bricks would look good in a rainbow color design also.
i.e. Red brick-yellow flower,green brick-red flower, blue brick-white etc.
It can be a carnival of color with flowers and herbs and placed just about anywhere outside.
